After watching Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2, we had to see what happens when the Minions get their own movie.

Minions (2015) is a prequel to Despicable Me that shows the history of the Minions long before they meet Gru. The movie begins at the dawn of time, following the Minions as they evolve from tiny yellow organisms into creatures whose only purpose is to serve the most despicable master they can find.

After accidentally losing master after master throughout history, the Minions end up isolated and depressed without anyone evil to follow. To save the tribe, Kevin sets out on a mission to find a new boss, bringing Stuart and Bob with him on a journey that eventually leads them to 1960s New York and a villain convention called Villain-Con.

Directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, with music by Heitor Pereira, the film features Pierre Coffin as the voices of the Minions, Sandra Bullock as Scarlet Overkill, Jon Hamm as Herb Overkill, Michael Keaton as Walter Nelson, Allison Janney as Madge Nelson, Jennifer Saunders as Queen Elizabeth II, and Geoffrey Rush as the narrator.

At Villain-Con, Kevin, Stuart, and Bob meet Scarlet Overkill, the world’s first female supervillain, who hires them for a mission to steal the British crown. But the plan spirals completely out of control when Bob accidentally becomes king, Scarlet turns on the Minions, and Kevin has to step up in a huge way to save his friends. By the end, the movie reveals how the Minions finally cross paths with a young Gru, setting up the future of the Despicable Me franchise.
