George Cochran (Bob Hope) and Harold Gridley (Bing Crosby) are two fast-talking, quick-footed vaudeville entertainers with a serious problem: wherever they go, they leave a trail of broken engagements and furious fathers-in-law behind them. After yet another narrow escape from the altar in Melbourne, Australia, the duo stumble upon what seems like the perfect solution a lucrative deep-sea diving contract that will take them far, far away from their troubles.
Their destination? The lush, sun-drenched islands of the South Seas.
But paradise, as George and Harold quickly discover, is anything but peaceful. The moment they arrive, they find themselves entangled with a beautiful and mysterious princess named Lala (Dorothy Lamour), whose hand is fiercely coveted by a jealous local prince. Add to that a series of deadly traps, a chest full of hidden treasure, man-eating giant squids, a looming volcanic eruption — and, in one of cinema's most delightful surprise cameos, the appearance of Jane Russell herself and you have a recipe for pure, unadulterated chaos.
Of course, in true "Road to…" fashion, George and Harold are far more concerned with outwitting each other for Lala's affection than with any of the dangers around them.
