India's Financial Sector Still Building AI Cyber Defences: RBI Survey

As AI-powered cyber threats become more sophisticated, India's banking and financial sector is still strengthening its cyber resilience. According to the RBI's Financial Stability Report, 45% of banks and NBFCs say they are in the developing stage of AI cyber preparedness, while 38% rate themselves as intermediate. Only 5% consider their cyber resilience mature, and none classify themselves as advanced.

The survey also highlights reliance on third-party service providers, with 35% reporting moderate dependence, 23% high dependence, and 19% very high dependence—underscoring the growing importance of securing the wider financial ecosystem against cyber risks.
