After much debate and discussion, the Canadian government’s signature housing legislation is now law.

The Build Canada Homes Act, or Bill C-20, creates a new Crown corporation tasked with making housing more affordable.

But the legislation, which received royal assent last week, is facing heavy criticism for ignoring demands from renters.

Canada’s Parliament is full of landlords and homeowners. And as David Akin reports, advocates say that introduces an unacknowledged bias against Canadian renters.
