Speaking in Parliament, Conservative MP Nick Timothy cited census data showing that 72% of Somalis in the UK live in social housing, compared to 16% of the population overall. He has called on the UK Labour Government to release more data on benefits claimed by nationality.

Conservative MP Chris Philp has also cited the same figure in Parliament. Philp argues that high levels of immigration have placed significant pressure on housing. He notes that around 11 million foreign-born people live in the UK, 48% of social housing in London has a head of household born outside the UK and migration has absorbed around 50% of new housing supply over the last decade.
