The inspiration for the song came from a music workshop in Kabul. An Afghan woman named Nargiz and two friends began discussing why all the burkas in the city were blue. Together, they wrote the song to express how it actually feels to wear the garment.

The band rehearsed behind locked doors to avoid being killed or attacked by religious extremists. Following the release of the song in 2003, it became popular throughout the country as the band toured Kabul and neighboring cities after the fall of the initial Taliban regime, always performing anonymously. They also performed the song in German, and it eventually became a club hit in Europe.

The following year, the band went into hiding, and several theories and rumors surrounded their disappearance. However, by 2005, the band had released another song called "No Burka," reviving their musical style and continuing to call out government leaders.

The band is currently on permanent hiatus, with their last known activity occurring in 2007 on Myspace. According to several online interviews, the lead singer moved to Pakistan to pursue a music career.
