Through memory flashbacks accessed via hypnotic regression, the story follows the alleged UFO abduction of Betty and Barney Hill on September 19, 1961 in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. After returning from a trip to Canada, Betty, a social services worker in Portsmouth, and Barney, a postal employee from Boston, begin to suffer from severe anxiety and disturbing nightmares that disrupt their lives. Seeking answers, they turn to Dr. Benjamin Simon for help in reconstructing the events of that night through therapy. As the sessions progress, the couple independently recounts an extraordinary and unsettling experience that suggests something otherworldly may have occurred during their journey home.
