Conrad Nicholson Hilton was born on Christmas Day 1887 in the New Mexico Territory and built the Hilton Hotels Corporation from a single Texas property into one of the largest hospitality empires in the world.

His eldest son, Conrad Nicholson "Nicky" Hilton Junior, was raised in El Paso and Beverly Hills inside a fortune he was never seriously trained to manage, and was already drinking heavily by his early twenties.

On May 6, 1950, Nicky married 18-year-old MGM contract star Elizabeth Taylor in a Beverly Hills ceremony staged by the studio to coincide with the release of "Father of the Bride," and the marriage collapsed within seven months.

In private audio tapes recorded years later with journalist Richard Meryman, Taylor described the violence she said Nicky inflicted on their honeymoon, including a miscarriage she attributed to a beating.

In his 2014 biography "Elizabeth and Michael," J. Randy Taraborrelli reported an allegation that Nicky assaulted a young maid named Virginia Larson at a Hilton property in 1959, and that the family quietly paid to keep the matter from court.

Nicky Hilton Junior died on February 5, 1969, at the age of 42, leaving behind a daughter, a settlement file, and a Hilton fortune that continued to grow for three more generations into the era of Paris Hilton and the modern celebrity dynasty.
