The political landscape in Tamil Nadu remains uncertain as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam passes a resolution granting emergency powers to its party president to make crucial decisions. Elected representatives of the party have been instructed to remain in Chennai until the tenth of May. The development fuels speculation regarding potential backroom negotiations and an improbable alliance between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Congress party, accusing it of betrayal for breaking their regional alliance and aligning with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The Congress and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam currently hold one hundred and twelve seats, falling short of the majority mark. They require the support of smaller parties, including the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and the two Left parties, which collectively hold six seats. These smaller parties have not yet pledged their support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, leaving the formation of the new state government hanging in the balance.
