George Emil Banks was an American mass murderer and former prison guard who perpetrated the 1982 Wilkes-Barre shootings on September 25, 1982, in Wilkes-Barre and Jenkins Township, Pennsylvania. Banks killed 13 people, including five of his own children, making the attack one of the deadliest mass shootings in Pennsylvania history. He was convicted of multiple counts of murder and sentenced to death, but was repeatedly found mentally incompetent for execution. He remained incarcerated until his death in 2025.
