Author Matt Goodwin has said the debate around the use of single-sex spaces by trans people has "lost complete touch with science."

Speaking on BBC2’s Politics Live, the former Reform UK candidate said, a "bunch of radical activists decided they would try and impose a radical ideology on the rest of us, make us use gender pronouns and believe that actually anybody can identify any particular way."

"We're not talking about radical ideology. You've got a problem with anyone even wanting to call themselves they/them - why do you care?" Labour MP Samantha Niblett responded.

Earlier in the debate, the MP for South Derbyshire questioned the proportionality of the guidance from the Equality and Human Rights Commission that toilets and changing rooms must be used on the basis of biological sex, saying, "for half a percent of the UK population that identify as transgender, it's felt like a little bit of a witch hunt."
