In Depression-era New York, Jimmy Keenan runs a humble newsstand and dreams of becoming a lawyer like his hero, Abraham Lincoln. When a young orphan named Gimpy lands in his care, Jimmy promises to give him the chance at a better life. But the streets are ruthless.
