????️ Experience Crime and Punishment (1935), a compelling blend of crime drama, mystery, and police suspense. Considered to be a promising student of the criminal mind, Roderick Raskolnikov's (Peter Lorre) career as a criminologist is jeopardized by his family's relentless poverty. With his mother, sister, and girlfriend Sonya (Marian Marsh) slowly starving to death, he sells his father's watch to a vitriolic pawnbroker (Mrs. Patrick Campbell). After returning to rob and kill her, Raskolnikov, confident he can avoid detection, volunteers to help police Inspector Porfiry (Edward Arnold) solve the crime. But when Porfiry suspects his involvement, he lays a trap that uses the killer's own hubris and his conscience to draw him out. And when he's unable to live with the guilt, Raskolnikov takes Sonya's advice and finally surrenders to the police.
