Summary:
More than 900 U.S. automatic tank gauge systems used by gas stations and other critical infrastructure operators were found exposed online and vulnerable to attack. BleepingComputer reports that CISA, the FBI, NSA, Department of Energy, and other U.S. agencies warned that attackers are targeting internet-exposed ATG systems through issues such as hardcoded credentials, authentication bypass, SQL injection, OS command execution flaws, and privilege escalation. Shadowserver observed 1,061 exposed ATG IPs globally on June 5, 2026, with 909 in the United States, and agencies warned attackers could modify settings, disable alerts, and increase the risk of leaks, equipment failures, or tank damage.

Why it matters:
Exposed ATG systems create real-world safety and operational risks for fuel storage, leak detection, and critical infrastructure monitoring.
