Some of the greatest science fiction films ever made were booed, bombed at the box office, and called "unimaginative" and "worst ever made" by the very critics who later called them masterpieces. One director was so shaken by his premiere that he cut nineteen minutes from his film and went into hiding. Another watched his lead actor walk off the project, spent his own money rebuilding it from scratch, and still got crucified when it finally released.

In this video, we count down 10 of the most misunderstood science fiction films in cinema history from Mr. Nobody's stunning invisibility despite winning at Venice, to Donnie Darko dying at the box office six weeks after 9/11, to the film that literally got sustained booing at its festival premiere before critics voted it the greatest British film of the 21st century.
