"We finally beat medicare." That's the sentence Jill Biden has to explain away in her new book.

This was not a 1990s clip. This was Joe Biden, sitting president, at a nationally televised debate against Donald Trump in June 2024, trying to talk about his own record.

He kept going from there: "I'm going to continue to move until we get the total ban on the the the the total initiative relative to what we're going to do with more border patrol and more asylum officers."

As the host put it on the rewatch: "I really don't know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don't think he knows what he said either. Nobody does." And the punch: "we beat medicare to death."
