पश्चिम बंगाल में संसदीय राजनीति की एक नई कहानी लिखी जा कही है। पंद्रह साल तक प्रदेश में राज करने वाली पार्टी केवल सत्ता से बाहर नहीं हुई है, उसका अस्तित्व ही ख़तरे में है। विधायक दल टूट गया, संसदीय दल टूट गया और अब पार्टी पर अधिकार का दावा चुनाव आयोग के सामने है। ममता बनर्जी पंद्रह साल से सरकार नहीं साम्राज्य चला रही थीं । उनको लग रहा था कि पश्चिम बंगाल में उनकी सत्ता सदा के लिए है। उनकी पार्टी के कार्यकर्ताओं को लगा कि तृणमूल का सदस्य होने का मतलब गुंडागर्दी का लाइसेंस है। ममता बनर्जी ने उनकी यह ग़लतफ़हमी दूर करने की बजाय इसकी ने केवल पुष्टि की बल्कि संरक्षण भी दिया। सत्ता जाते ही संरक्षण गया और डराने वालों को डर लगने लगा। अब गुंडागर्दी करने वालों को क़ानून की याद आ रही है।

A new chapter in parliamentary politics is being written in West Bengal. The party that ruled the state for fifteen years has not only lost power, but its very existence now appears to be under threat. Its legislative party has split, its parliamentary party has fractured, and now rival factions are claiming control of the party before the Election Commission.

For fifteen years, Mamata Banerjee was not merely running a government—she was presiding over what many viewed as a political empire. It seemed as though she believed her rule in West Bengal would last forever. Many party workers came to believe that being a member of the Trinamool Congress was a license to act with impunity. Instead of correcting this misconception, Mamata Banerjee was seen as reinforcing it and providing it with political protection.

Once the party lost power, that protection disappeared. Those who had once intimidated others suddenly found themselves living in fear. Now, the very people who were accused of resorting to intimidation and strong-arm tactics are invoking the protection of the law.
